Direct Mail Automation & API
Direct mail automation and API: send a postcard like you send an email
Automate direct mail from your CRM, e-commerce platform or code: triggered 5×8.25 and 6×11 postcards and letters sent one at a time at program rates, with a REST API, Zapier, HubSpot, Salesforce and Shopify integrations.
Direct mail automation means a piece of mail goes out because something happened: a customer abandoned a cart, a lead went quiet for 30 days, a policy is up for renewal, a patient is due for a cleaning, a new customer bought for the first time. No spreadsheet, no upload, no print run; the record hits the trigger and the postcard is printed and mailed the next business day, at the per-piece rate quoted for your program.
You can connect through our REST API, through Zapier or Make, or with native integrations for HubSpot, Salesforce, Shopify, Klaviyo and Mailchimp. Templates are built once with merge fields; every send fills them from the record. Delivery events come back by webhook so your CRM knows when the card landed.
What can you automate with direct mail?
The same journeys you already automate by email, with the response rate of a physical piece. Welcome cards to new customers. Win-back offers to customers who have not bought in 90 days. Abandoned-cart postcards with the product pictured. Renewal and re-enrollment letters. Appointment recall cards for dentists, vets and salons. Birthday and anniversary offers. Review requests after a completed job. Follow-ups to leads who filled a form and then went quiet. Each one is a template plus a trigger.
- E-commerce: abandoned cart, first purchase thank-you, win-back, VIP
- Home services: post-job review request, seasonal maintenance reminder
- Healthcare: recall, missed appointment, new patient welcome
- Insurance and finance: renewal, rate change, cross-sell, birthday
- Real estate: new lead follow-up, anniversary of purchase, neighbor "just sold"
- SaaS and B2B: trial-to-paid nudge, churn risk, account expansion
How the API works
Create a template with merge fields and a design, or upload a PDF per send. Call the send endpoint with the recipient address and the merge data; the API validates the address, returns an ID and a rendered proof URL, and queues the piece. It prints in the next business day's batch and mails First-Class by default. Webhooks report rendered, printed, mailed, in transit and delivered, using USPS scan data. Everything the API does is also available in the dashboard, so a marketer can send a test without a developer.
Why one-off pieces cost the same as a batch
Because we batch them. Every triggered piece from every customer prints in the same daily run, on the same presses, and presorts with everything else going to that ZIP. The unit cost is the run's cost, not yours alone, so a single 6×11 costs what a 6×11 costs at the rate quoted for your program, and the postage is the presorted First-Class rate. There is no per-send API fee.
Direct mail vs. email automation
Email is free and ignored; a postcard costs real money and is read. The right use of automated mail is not to replace email but to add a physical touch at the points where email is failing: the customer who unsubscribed, the lead who has not opened anything in a month, the high-value account where a postcard is trivial against the revenue. Most customers run mail as a step inside an existing email journey, triggered when the email steps are exhausted.

Automation & API: questions people ask
Is there a direct mail API?
Yes. Our REST API lets you create templates, verify addresses and send postcards or letters one record at a time, with webhooks for print and delivery status. There is a sandbox for testing, and Zapier and Make connectors for teams that do not want to write code.
How much does automated direct mail cost per piece?
A per-piece rate quoted for your program and the cities it mails to, plus USPS postage, with no API fee and no monthly platform fee for standard accounts. Triggered pieces are batched with the day's production, so a single card costs what it would in a run. Ask for a quote with your expected monthly volume.
Can I trigger postcards from HubSpot or Salesforce?
Yes. Native integrations let a workflow in HubSpot or a flow in Salesforce send a postcard or letter when a record meets your conditions, using the contact's address and any properties as merge fields. Delivery status writes back to the record.
How quickly does a triggered postcard go out?
Pieces triggered before the daily cutoff print that business day and enter the mail the next; later triggers roll to the following batch. Mailed First-Class, they arrive in one to five business days, so most triggered cards are in the mailbox within a week of the event.
Can I send a single postcard through the API?
Yes. There is no minimum. One postcard costs the per-piece rate quoted for your program plus First-Class postage, and it is printed with the rest of that day's batch.
